High Tunnels at Avery St. Community Gardens

high tunnel planning

With the cooperation and expert guidance from the Town Senior Environmental Planner, (Jeff Folger), the Town of South Windsor received a grant from the USDA/National Resource Conservation Service in order to construct two 24’ by 48’ High Tunnels at the Avery St. Community Gardens.

The High Tunnels will allow for:
Early planting of vegetables for the community garden members with some potential for garden plots within the High Tunnels; possible lease to a local farmer who may need some additional planting/start up space; some raised beds available for wheelchair gardeners, and a micro-greens crop to be sold at the SW Farmers Market.

The High Tunnel construction is now completed. Please visit.

Partners in this project include:
– SW FOOD Alliance
– SW Environmental Planning Dept
– SW Down-to-Earth-Garden Club
– SW Master Gardeners
